THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY Part 1

With Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland

Written by Danny Strong, Peter Craig (based on the book Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins)
Directed by Francis Lawrence

Just like popular series Twilight and Harry Potter, the last installment of the Hunger Games is split into two chapters. Personally I feel these have been drawn out too much and could've been condensed - but when there's double the ticket revenue to be made…

Anyhow, we currently find the resistance on the rise, with Katniss Everdeen elected their "poster girl" - literally having a camera crew following them around on missions against their oppressor to capture the struggle and drama as propaganda to keep the hope of the people alive.
Out in the world battling the Capitol from the independent District 13, she is also set on saving the captive Peeta (I still find author Collins' namecreations silly).

With battles and some very cheesy rousing speeches, this feels too much like a bridge film into the finale (which it obviously is), and regardless of its big budget spectacle, gets a bit laboured and boring in parts. Hardcore fans will disagree, but let's wait for the conclusion…
