THE SHORTCUT

With Andrew Seeley, Shannon Woodward, Dave Franco, Katrina Bowden, Kent Allen, Raymond J. Barry, Wendy Anderson, William B. Davis, Josh Emerson

Written by Dan Hannon & Scott Sandler
Directed by Nicholaus Goossen (aka Nick Goosen)

Where Ben Stiller's production company made an admirable foray into the horror genre with The Ruins, unfortunately his contemporary Adam Sandler didn't fare as well with this lukewarm stab at it.
New in town, a boy is spurred on to take a notorious shortcut from school. In the woods he finds a dead dog and is confronted by a bad tempered old man. The legend soon comes to the fore of a crazy kid who killed many people decades back, but was never brought to book - still living in the woods.
The kid's older brother and a few friends decide to investigate the house of this apparent killer, and many of the secrets obscured for nearly two generations tumble out of the closet.
This is an okay time-passer, but not at all spectacular, with too many obvious horror recipes screaming at the audience.
As with most movies nowadays (avoiding strict US union rules) this movie was shot in Canada.
