Contagion

CONTAGION

With Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, Marion Cotillard, John Hawkes

Written by Scott Z. Burns
Directed by Steven Soderbergh

In a world of visible dangers, imminent peril and terrorist fears, there are also many deadly invisible ones that can attack indiscriminately. The Ebola virus, swine- and bird flu are just a few. But what happens if something flares up and spreads across the globe with scientists and governmental institutions unable to trace its origin or find an antidote? Following several people across this crisis, from regular citizens to government agents and scientists, we witness a pandemic that could easily wipe humanity from the face of the earth. Along the path trying to unravel this crisis, the viewer is driven towards the cause. Sure to spark some paranoia, especially in hypochondriacs, this is the kind of shocking cautionary tale that is in fact a real horror movie (without any hairy or sharp tooth monsters).

An extra feature includes a cartoon depiction of how a pandemic kicks off and escalates – a little too up-tempo for my liking in the face of the issue's seriousness, I'm afraid (!).
