METROPOLIS

With Brigitte Helm, Alfred Abel
Directed by Fritz Lang

Even by today’s standards this 1926 futuristic epic is something to behold. A cinematic masterpiece, German director Fritz Lang took great pains in creating a story of a divided culture of the privileged up in skyscrapers and the downtrodden workers underground. With innovative, creative and highly effective techniques and effects ahead of its time, this work of brilliance still holds up today, making other movies from its era look primitive by comparison. One of those historic masterworks everyone should see.
The restored Eureka! release comes with a bonus disc of highly informative extras looking at both the production of the film and its restoration.
