HORROR
BUSINESS
SATURDAY
27
OCTOBER
-
8:30pm
(R20)
HORROR
BUSINESS
is
an
outrageously
entertaining
documentary
about
guerrilla
horror
filmmakers
and
the
bizarre
culture
that
drives
them
to
pursue
their
dreams.
In
2003,
filmmaker
Christopher
P.
Garetano
began
what
would
become
a
two
year
journey
to
discover
what
possesses
people
to
become
horror
filmmakers...
Armed
with
nothing
but
a
camera
and
a
microphone,
Chris
traveled
all
over
the
United
States
to
visit
independent
filmmakers
on
and
off
their
sets.
In
Horror
Business
you
will
witness
that
two
year
journey
unfold
and
meet
some
truly
independent
filmmakers
including
Mark
Borchardt
(American
Movie)
and
Dave
Gebroe
(Zombie
Honeymoon)
along
with
monster
movie
personalities
like
Herschell
Gordon
Lewis
(Blood
Feast),
Joe
Bob
Briggs
(cult
film
critic
&
author),
and
Sid
Haig
(Spider
Baby,
The
Devils
Rejects).
Horror
Business
is
a
timeless
essay
of
popcorn
generation
nostalgia
and
behind-the-scenes
moments
that
just
may
prove...
movie
making
really
is
no
way
to
spend
a
life...
"
Horror
Business
is
a
terrific
flick.
Christopher
Garetano
has
completely
succeeded
in
describing
the
passions,
the
adventures-
and
the
misadventures-
of
crazy
people
like
me
who,
somewhere
along
the
way,
decided
they...
needed
to
make
movies.
Anyone
who
wants
to
write
or
direct
should
see
this
film.
Those
who
have
never
dreamed
of
being
filmmakers
should
see
it
for
its
humor
and
its
pure
entertainment
value.
Two
thumbs
up-
both
of
them
mine
because,
like
the
others
Garetano
has
portraited,
I
basically
work
alone.

ZIBAHKHANA
(Hell's
Ground)
SATURDAY
27
OCTOBER
-
10:30pm
(R20)
ZIBAHKHANA
(HELL'S
GROUND)
is
the
first
modern
horror
film
to
be
shot
in
Pakistan.
It
breaks
all
of
the
rules
of
local
productions
and
was
made
entirely
independently
with
no
film
industry
or
government
assistance.
In
the
spirit
of
the
old
EC
comics,
the
film
tells
the
story
of
five
teens
who
get
lost
on
their
way
to
a
rock
concert,
are
menaced
by
flesh
eating
mutations
and
then
fall
into
the
clutches
of
a
family
of
back
woods
killers.
The
film
includes
copious
amounts
of
gore
alongside
a
splattering
of
social
commentary
and
several
slices
of
dark
humour.
It's
best
seen
as
a
tribute
to
the
cinema
of
Lucio
Fulci
and
George
Romero,
but
viewed
from
a
distinctly
Pakistani
perspective.
The
film
is
directed
and
co-written
by
former
film
critic
Omar
Ali
Khan.
Its
cast
combines
some
of
the
country's
most
exciting
new
talent
alongside
Pakistani
film
veterans
such
as
Rehan
and
Najma
Malik.
The
gruesome
make-up
effects
were
done
by
Nawab
Sagar,
another
industry
veteran
who
has
worked
on
numerous
mainstream
productions.
The
film
was
shot
by
London
trained
cinematographer
Najaf
Bilgrami
and
was
edited
by
the
UK's
Andy
Starke.

Having

many

countless

the
Alien

has
become
a
culture
unto
itself.
So
many
people
born

(or
too

the
cinema
at
the
time)
never
had

STUPID
TEENAGERS
MUST
DIE!
TUESDAY
30
OCTOBER
-
6:15pm
(R20)
From
Wiggy
VonSchtick
and
Off
Set
Pictures
comes
a
new
entry
into
the
slasher/zombie/exploitation
genre
that
keeps
its
bloody
tongue
firmly
in
cheek.
It's
the
1980’s
and
a
group
of
teenagers
are
getting
together
to
hold
a
seance
in
a
haunted
house.
All
the
typical
80’s
horror
movie
characters
are
there:
the
cool
hero,
the
innocent
girlfriend,
the
goth
chick,
the
tough
guy,
the
beautiful
blonde
girl,
the
shy
guy
in
love
with
the
beautiful
blonde
girl,
a
couple
of
lipstick
lesbians
and
two
big
geeks.
In
true
low
budget
80’s
horror
movie
fashion,
weird
things
start
happening
around
the
house.
One
dimensional
characters
are
dying
preposterously
bloody
deaths,
girls
are
getting
naked
for
no
apparent
reason
and
people
walk
into
dangerous,
pitch
black
rooms
saying
classic
lines
like,
"Is
someone
in
here?"
As
the
poor,
hapless
kids
are
sliced
and
diced,
it's
up
to
our
hero
to
lead
the
remaining
survivors
to
safety
before
the
house
is
filled
with
stupid
dead
teenagers.
Stupid
Teenagers
Must
Die!
is
the
directorial
debut
from
Jeff
C.

and
features
a

Nine
TUESDAY
30
OCTOBER
-
8:30pm
(R20)
No-one
would
have
figured
that
the
9
masked
metal
monsters
from
Iowa
would
make
such
an
impact
on
the
music
industry.
With
them
it’s
more
than
just
getting
into
their
masks
and
boiler
suits,
they
live
and
breathe
this
demon
called
Slipknot.
Slipknot
emerged
from
a
saturated
nu-metal
market
in
the
‘90s
(from
the
unlikely
location
of
Iowa)
with
what
seemed
like
a
Kiss
mask
gimmick.
But
the
nine-member
strong
band
soon
proved
their
critics
wrong
with
their
extreme
laced,
high
caliber,
original
full
metal
jacket
music,
matched
by
some
of
the
most
intense
live
shows
around.
This
intense
documentary
takes
a
look
inside
this
18-legged
beast
across
two
years
–
taking
you
on
the
road,
back
stage,
into
the
studio,
festival
footage,
at
music
awards
ceremonies
and
beyond.
Some
of
your
fears
and
suspicions
will
be
confirmed
while
as
many
(if
not
more)
will
be
proven
wrong.
The
band’s
explosive
presence
permeates
everything,
and
if
you
like
your
music
light,
sugar
coated
and
unchallenging,
this
is
knot
the
band
for
you!
At
this
screening
there
will
be
Slipknot
CD
give-aways!

THE
CABINET
OF
DOCTOR
CALIGARI
(Das
Cabinet
des
Dr.
Caligari)
WEDNESDAY
31
OCTOBER
-
8:30pm
(R40)
As
is
customary,
the
S.A.
HORRORFEST
presents
a
silent
classic
with
a
live,
original
soundtrack
performed
to
the
screen.
On
Halloween
night,
Robert
Wiene’s
legendary
German
film
THE
CABINET
OF
DR.
CALIGARI
(1919)
will
loom
on
the
screen
to
a
live
soundtrack
created
by
members
of
TERMINATRYX
and
LARK.
They
will
be
joined
by
THE
CRACKPOT
REALIST
and
other
guest
artists.
The
expressionistic
film
follows
the
tale
of
a
magician
at
a
fair
who
has
a
somnambulist
(sleepwalker),
who
can
predict
the
future.
When
a
man
asks
when
he’ll
die,
the
prediction
is,
“by
dawn”
–
and
it
happens!
This
leads
to
further
mayhem
and
panic.
With
an
incredibly
effective
and
graphic
angular
expressionistic
style
in
the
set
design,
this
piece
of
cinema
history
is
still
something
to
behold
–
and
here
further
enhanced
with
the
live
soundtrack.
Live
sound
by
Trilogy
Music
While
viewers
are
encouraged
to
dress
up
as
their
favourite
monsters
(or
any
ghoulish,
freaky
costumes
&
make-up)
throughout
the
Festival,
this
Halloween
night
screening
is
where
the
best
dressed
winner
will
be
selected
-
with
cool
Horror
prizes
including
DVDs,
CDs,
PlayStation
stuff,
Halloween
goodies
(from
Party
Tricks)
and
Gothic
gear
(from

Bat).
